introduction to microsoft excel
This class will provide a foundation for participants new to Microsoft Excel. Basic operations will be covered including entering and changing data, simple formatting, the SUM function, and printing. Participants will create their own annual budget report, with proper formulas and formatting, and then create a simple chart. (Recommended Time: 2 Hours)
This class will demonstrate how to create compelling, attractive spreadsheets. Through the use of spacing, borders, font, and color, participants will observe how a simple spreadsheet can be designed to be more easily understood and accepted by the reader.
Participants will also learn how to create charts and adjust their appearance. This class assumes prior knowledge of basic Excel skills. (Recommended Time: 2 Hours)
understanding expressions and functions
This class helps participants learn precisely how expressions and functions work, starting from the basics (simple arithmetic, SUM, and AVERAGE) to the complex (IF, financial formulas, etc). Time and date calculations, text manipulation, and time-saving tips will be covered.
Participants will create their own time card sheet that automatically calculates overtime, wage, and vacation accrual. This class assumes prior knowledge of basic Excel skills. (Recommended Time: 2 Hours)
tips and tricks
This fast-paced class is intended for users who are looking to get more out of Excel. A wide variety of shortcuts and features will be demonstrated to the class, including keyboard time-savers, series fills, format styles, function tricks, and more. This class assumes prior knowledge of basic Excel skills. (Recommended Time: 1 Hour)
working with multiple worksheets and workbooks
Participants will learn how to manage multiple worksheets and workbooks in Excel. They will learn how to link data between worksheets and even other Excel workbooks. They will learn how to use absolute cell references, named ranges, and expressions that span multiple worksheets and workbooks. This class assumes prior knowledge of basic Excel expressions. (Recommended Time: 2 Hours)
locking down your workbook
Participants will learn how to create spreadsheets to be used by other employees and reduce error through data validation, cell locking, and automated assistance. They will learn how to password-protect parts of the spreadsheet, or the entire workbook, to create a solution or template that can be used throughout the organization. (Recommended Time: 2 Hours)
Participants will use Excel’s pivot tables to quickly summarize thousands of records in just a few clicks. The Pivot Table feature sorts, counts, and totals data and lets users quickly review that data in a variety of ways. Participants will be able to turn a long list of payroll transactions or scientific data into something useful. Basic experience with Excel is expected. (Recommended Time: 2 Hours)
